Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882), famous poet

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was an American poet and educator.

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Born in Portland, Maine (which at the time was part of Massachusetts), he spent much of his life in Massachusetts.

He was a contemporary and friend of Hawthorne.

In his time he was the most famous and most read American poet.

Perhaps his best poem was Evangeline (a favorite of my mother), a tale memorializing the Acadians exiled from Canada in 1755.

Aaron Cleveland, my 3rd cousin 8 times removed, is the 3rd cousin twice removed of the famous poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
